History of ATP tour

The ATP started in 1972 to give professional men’s tennis players a stronger voice and protect their interests. It introduced the first official world rankings in 1973, naming Ilie Năstase as the first world No. 1. Years later, the association created the ATP Tour in 1990 and the ATP Finals, a prestigious year-end championship. Today, the ATP uses electronic line-calling technology to make the game fairer and more accurate.
