Elche remain without a league win after five matches, but their point at San Mamés gave Martín Anselmi’s side a more positive platform before Real Madrid’s visit. Facundo Buonanotte scored from the penalty spot in the 50th minute before Iñaki Williams equalised for Athletic Club.

Anselmi has emphasised possession and defensive concentration as central to Elche’s approach. Ahead of the match, he said the team must reproduce the competitiveness shown in Bilbao and avoid giving Real Madrid easy openings.

Elche had not published a final matchday squad or a definitive fixture-specific injury bulletin at the time of this update. The confirmed starting XI and any late availability changes should therefore be taken from official club communication once released.

Real Madrid arrive after a 4-1 league win over Rayo Vallecano. Kylian Mbappé scored twice, with Álvaro Carreras and Jude Bellingham also on target. The result moved José Mourinho’s side to 12 points from five league matches.

Madrid have named their travelling squad for Elche. Thibaut Courtois, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé are among the players included.

Ferland Mendy, Éder Militão and Rodrygo have continued their individual recovery work and are not in the travelling squad. The selection also comes before Sunday’s Madrid derby against Atlético, giving Mourinho another short turnaround to manage.

Team	P	W	D	L
Elche	5	0	2	3
Real Madrid	5	4	0	1

Elche have scored six league goals and conceded 13, while Real Madrid have scored 14 and conceded four. That difference explains the early gap in the table, but the previous meeting at Martínez Valero also showed that Elche can make this fixture difficult.

Real Madrid’s only league defeat so far came away to Real Betis on 4 September. They responded by beating Inter 2-1 in the Champions League and then Rayo 4-1 in La Liga.

Real Madrid have had the stronger recent record in this fixture, but Elche took a point from the last meeting at Martínez Valero. The clubs drew 2-2 on 23 November 2025 after Elche twice moved ahead.

14 Mar 2026	Real Madrid vs Elche	La Liga	4-1
23 Nov 2025	Elche vs Real Madrid	La Liga	2-2

Madrid won the return meeting 4-1 at the Bernabéu in March 2026. That result and the current league positions give the visitors a very different statistical profile, but the Martínez Valero draw remains the most relevant recent meeting at this venue.

Elche’s defensive concentration will be tested by a Madrid attack that has already scored 14 league goals. Anselmi has stressed the need to defend through possession rather than spending the entire match without the ball, which makes Elche’s ability to play through pressure important.

For Real Madrid, the short turnaround and Sunday’s derby create a selection question without changing the importance of the points available in Elche. Mbappé enters the fixture after scoring twice against Rayo and has seven goals in Madrid’s first six competitive matches of the season.

The official starting lineups will provide the clearest indication of how both coaches manage the schedule. Probable XIs should not be treated as confirmed teams.
