RETURN OF THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE. SPORTPESA BLOG MATCHDAY ONE PREDICTIONS.

After months of waiting, the time has finally come for the return of the world’s most entertaining drama series, the English Premier League.

Plenty of teams have spent their summer break bolstering their squads in anticipation for the new season and it’s time to take to the field.

Manchester City are coming off a historic treble winning season and kick start their campaign against newcomers Burnley.

Burnley were relegated at the end of the 2021/22 season after six years in the top flight but are back with a bang.

Their coach, Vincent Kompany, is a former Man City Captain and club legend, with all eyes on him ahead of their Friday night kick-off.

Sheffield United and Luton Town were the other two teams that were promoted to the English Premier League last season.

Both these sides will be in action on Saturday, August 11 as Sheffield host Crystal Palace while Luton are away to Brighton.

Everton, who barely maintained their EPL status on the final day of last season, will host Fulham in their opening game on Saturday as well.

Brentford will enjoy their second successive season in the EPL and will begin their campaign with a tricky Tottenham Hotspur fixture on Sunday.

Here, SportPesa’s Blog has a look at the top 3 games featured in match day one of the English Premier League.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest – Saturday, 12:30pm UK time.

The Gunners looked on course to win a first EPL title for the first time in 19 years but buckled under pressure in the final stretch.

They had to settle for a second-place finish and the consolation of Champions League football this season.

New signings Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber looked to have settled in well and are prepared for opening day.

Arsenal beat Forest 5-0 in the first leg last season, before suffering a shock 1-0 defeat in May.

The Gunners have won 4 out of their last 5 games, while Sheffield have only managed one win.

Over 1.5 goals are expected in this game and Arsenal are favourites to win.

Chelsea vs Liverpool – Sunday, 16:30pm UK time.

The biggest game in match day one of the EPL sees Chelsea and Liverpool lock horns at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues had a terrible season and finished a lowly 12th place with 44 points.

The reds on the other hand, Liverpool bounced back in the second half of the season to manage a 5th place finish.

The last 6 games played between these two teams have resulted in a draw, with both games last season ending 0-0.

Chelsea will be without injured new signing Christopher Nkunku but striker Nicholas Jackson is raring to start.

All eyes are on Mauricio Pochettino as he takes over the sinking ship at Chelsea, with the aim of improving their form.

Another draw is not far-fetched in this encounter as well but over 1.5 goals are expected.

Manchester United vs Wolves – Monday, 20:00pm UK time.

The red devils came in third at the end of last season and begin with a tricky Wolves clash at Old Trafford.

Man United beat Wolves in both games last season with a 3-0 aggregate score and are confident ahead of this game.

The hosts come into the game on a poor run of form, losing three of their last five matches.

While, Wolves are unbeaten in their last five games, winning three in the process.

United boosted their squad with Andre Onana, Mason Mount and lanky forward Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta.

Erik Ten Hag’s charges are a much better side on paper and are tipped as favourites to win.
