Bayern Munich vs Lazio: UCL Preview, Team News & Prediction

  • The Bayern Munich vs Lazio match will kick off on Tuesday at 21:00 CET
  • Lazio have a 0-1 advantage from the first leg.
  • Bayern must win to advance to the quarterfinals.

Bayern Munich face a must-win clash on Tuesday night when they host Lazio in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash.

Having succumbed to a shocking 0-1 defeat in the first leg played back on 14 February, the Thomas Tuchel-coached side welcome Lazio at the Allianz Arena in a do-or-die clash in order to book their ticket to the quarterfinals.

The troubled Bayern, who have managed only one win in their last five games in all competitions ((D1 L3), will be fighting to turn around the tie in a bid to prevent their European season from crashing as they currently trail log leading Bayer Leverkusen by ten points in the Bundesliga.

However, history will be against them as they have been eliminated from 12 of their last 15 Champions League ties in which they have lost the away leg first.

They will however take confidence from the fact that they have won an impressive six games in a row at home against Serie A opposition, winning four of those matches by a two-goal margin which would be enough to get the job done against Lazio.

The visitors, meanwhile, are bidding to reach their first Champions League quarter-final since 1999-00, when Sven-Göran Eriksson led them through the second group stage.

They have lost their two previous away knockout games in this competition, though, against Valencia in the 1999-00 quarter-finals (2-5) and Bayern in 2020-21’s round of 16 (1-2).

While a clean sheet would be enough to take Lazio through, they may need another goal to sit comfortably.

What time does Bayern Munich vs Lazio start?

Bayern Munich vs Lazio Head-to-Head

Lazio’s win in the first leg was their first over Bayern in the Champions League, after they lost both legs of a round-of-16 tie against them in 2020-21.

The Biancocelesti could now become the first team since Real Madrid, when they went on to lift the trophy in 2016-17, to beat Bayern home and away in the same Champions League campaign.

However, Lazio are winless in four previous Champions League games in Germany, drawing two and losing two.

Bayern’s defeat in Rome ended their 12-game unbeaten run against Italian teams in the Champions League, with the Bundesliga giants having won 10 such matches and drawn two since losing to Inter in March 2011.
