Further Misery for City as Liverpool Begin to Pull Away, Previews, Stats & Insights

Liverpool made no mistake in taking advatage of yet another Manchester City slip as they now go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool left it late last Sunday as they came from 2-1 down away to bottom of the league Southampton to eventually win the game 2-3 with Mohammed Salah scoring a late penalty after also netting the equaliser ensuring Liverpool extend their lead at the top over Manchestr City to eight points.

City found themselves on the end of another league defeat this time at home to Spurs who shocked everybody with a 4-0 hammering of City which seen them jump back into the top six and left City contemplating what is going wrong as this was a fifth straight defeat in all competetions.

Elsewhere Arsenal were back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest and Chelsea remain in third place as they secured an away win over Leicester City.

This weekend the action starts with a Friday night match between Brighton and Southampton at 20.00 ko (UK time). The Seagulls will be looking to follow up another sucess against South Coast opposition after beating Bournemouth away last weekend 1-2.

Four games take place on Saturday afternoon at (15.00) including Brentford v Leicester, Crystal Palace v Newcastle, Nottingham Forest v Ipswich and Wolves v Bournemouth before a late kick off (17.30) sees West Ham host Arsenal.

Sunday begins at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea welcome Aston Villa, Manchester United host Everton and Fulham have a short away trip to play Tottenham all games at (13.30).

Then all eyes will turn to Anfield as league leaders Liverpool will play second place Manchester City (16.00) in a huge clash which would see Liverpool go eleven points ahead of City with a win. Gaurdiola and Manchester City have lost the last three league games and another defeat here could be their title race over, so this really is all set for a tasty affair.

Brighton vs Southampton

Brighton now into fifth with back to back wins of 2-1 over Manchester City and Bournemouth will be hoping of more of the same as they welcome bottom club Southampton to the Amex. Saints where pinching themselves as they went 2-1 in front against Liverpool in the last match only for the reality to set in as they went on to lose 3-2 but they will take some confidence from a good perfomance allthough the result was not what they hoped.
