Europa League Table After Matchday 4: Standings and Qualification Picture

Europa League table after Matchday 4

Benfica lead the UEFA Europa League table after Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 league phase, ahead of Bournemouth and Ferencváros on goal difference. All three clubs have taken 12 points from four matches, while Juventus, Union Saint-Gilloise and Olympiacos are close behind on 10.

The top-eight places would provide direct passage to the round of 16 if the league phase ended now. At the other end, AC Milan are 28th following a 2–0 home defeat to Ferencváros, and the line between the play-off places and elimination remains narrow. These are the standings after the matches of 4–5 November, with four league-phase games still to play for each club.

Which teams are in the direct qualification places?

Benfica, Bournemouth and Ferencváros lead the race for direct qualification after winning all four league-phase matches. Union Saint-Gilloise, Juventus and Olympiacos each have 10 points, while Leverkusen hold seventh despite losing to Marseille. Beşiktaş sit eighth on seven points, with several clubs immediately behind them on the same total.

No team has secured a final league-phase placing after only four of eight matches. A strong opening does, however, give the leaders more room for error as the final four rounds approach.

The Matchday 4 results that changed the table

Bournemouth maintained their perfect record by winning 3–1 at Sparta Praha, and Benfica beat Lech Poznań 3–1 to stay top on goal difference. Ferencváros joined them on 12 points after a 2–0 victory at Milan, a result that also pushed the Italian side further from the play-off places.

FixtureFinal score
Sparta Praha vs Bournemouth1–3
Benfica vs Lech Poznań3–1
AC Milan vs Ferencváros0–2
AZ Alkmaar vs Juventus1–2
Celta Vigo vs Union SG1–2
Real Sociedad vs Lyon1–1
Sunderland vs GNK Dinamo0–2
Bayer Leverkusen vs Marseille0–1
Celtic vs Beşiktaş3–2

Juventus strengthened their position with a 2–1 win away to AZ Alkmaar. Union Saint-Gilloise also collected three points at Celta Vigo, while Marseille registered a first league-phase win at Leverkusen. Lyon drew 1–1 with Real Sociedad and stand 13th, outside the direct-qualification places after four rounds.

The race for 24th place is still open

Sturm Graz occupy 24th place on four points and a −3 goal difference, narrowly ahead of Celje, also on four points but with a −4 goal difference. Salzburg have four points as well. One result could therefore change the picture substantially at the boundary between the knockout play-offs and elimination.

Milan have three points from four matches and sit 28th. Their defeat to Ferencváros leaves them outside the current top 24, although four games remain and there is still time to recover. Celtic, Marseille, Celta Vigo and Viktoria Plzeň are also on three points.

How Europa League qualification works

The Europa League league phase features 36 clubs in one table. Each team plays eight matches against eight different opponents: four at home and four away. The top eight at the end of Matchday 8 go directly to the round of 16. Clubs placed ninth to 24th contest two-legged knockout phase play-offs for the remaining eight round-of-16 spots. Teams finishing 25th to 36th are eliminated.

League-phase positions are determined by points first, with goal difference among the tiebreakers. The standings shown here are provisional and should not be confused with final qualification or elimination.

When is Europa League Matchday 5?

The next round is scheduled for Thursday, 26 November 2026. Benfica travel to Viktoria Plzeň, Bournemouth face Celta Vigo away, and Ferencváros host Celje. Juventus meet Omonia, while Lyon host Lillestrøm.

Europa League standings and results beyond Matchday 4

With half of the league phase completed, the leading three clubs have a three-point advantage over seventh-placed Leverkusen and a five-point lead over the side currently eighth. The greater uncertainty is around the direct-qualification cutoff and the bottom of the top 24, where several teams are level on points.
