Pirates and Chiefs start with wins

Orlando Pirates started their league-title defence with a 2–0 victory over Milford FC. Kaizer Chiefs won 3–1 away to Kruger United, with Wandile Duba scoring twice after Flávio da Silva’s early opener. The result gave Chiefs a positive beginning under Fernando Da Cruz.

AmaZulu and Polokwane City win away

AmaZulu left Stellenbosch with a 1–0 win, while Polokwane City defeated Richards Bay 2–1. Sekhukhune United also collected three points with a 1–0 victory over Durban City. In the weekend’s two draws, Golden Arrows and Chippa United finished 0–0, while Siwelele FC and TS Galaxy shared four goals in a 2–2 result.

Sundowns’ opener postponed

Mamelodi Sundowns did not play during the opening weekend. Their Betway Premiership fixture was postponed, meaning the club began its domestic competitive schedule later in the MTN8 rather than in Matchweek 1.
